Citytv Viewers Helped Raise $45,000 in the Fight Against Cancer

100 Percent of Donations Generated by the Broadcast Special City Fights Cancer to Fund Cancer Research in Canada.

(Toronto, September 15, 2010) Citytv viewers reached into their hearts and into their wallets in support of a good cause. As a direct result of their generosity, Citytv was able to raise $45,000 for cancer research with the special broadcast, City Fights Cancer on September 10.

“At Citytv, we are extremely grateful to the ongoing generosity of our viewers who continually rise to each occasion to make a difference,” commented Tina Cortese, Vice President News/Executive Producer, Citytv Toronto. “We are honoured to have been able to present stories of inspirational Canadians and their loved ones who face cancer each day with grace and courage.”

The touching Citytv special broadcast hosted by Gord Martineau, raised public awareness and necessary funds to fight cancer in Canada. With inspirational stories of courage and strength from across the country, including personal accounts from CityNews anchor Mark Dailey, CityNews reporter, Cynthia Mulligan; Juno-Award winning musician, Ronnie Hawkins; hockey legend, Paul Henderson; and Olympian Elizabeth Manley, Citytv viewers rose to the occasion, donating to Canadian cancer research.

“City Fights Cancer on Citytv represented a unique and wonderful opportunity to help Canadians to understand the key role of the Canadian Cancer Society in combating this terrible disease,” commented Anthony Fuchs, CCS Director of Communications. “We’re incredibly grateful to the people who shared their very personal stories on the broadcast, and to the generosity of the Canadian public.”
