Hell’s Kitchen: Monday, July 18 at 7pm ET/PT/ MT (6CT)
Gordon Ramsay, the Michelin-starred chef that contestants love to hate, returns for a ninth action-packed season of Hell’s Kitchen. Back behind the hotplate and cooking on gas, Gordon is certain to make temperatures rise as more restaurateur hopefuls pit their wits and cooking skills against each other, under his watchful eye. In the season premiere, 18 excited new chefs embark on a journey to cook their way to the top and win the grand prize – to become the head chef at BLT Steak in New York City, with a salary of $250,000. It’s a battle of the sexes, as Chef Ramsay divides the group into a red team (women) and a blue team (men) to begin their first challenge – to prepare their signature dishes. Things turn chaotic when the blue team hits a speed bump during the first dinner service and Chef Ramsay loses his cool, shutting down both kitchens. Despite the night’s mishaps, Chef Ramsay must declare one team the winner and decide which chef from the losing team will be the first to burn out

Next, in Pennsylvania, Ames’ fun-loving family shares valuable insights about this reserved suitor who has suffered the loss of both his father and stepfather. Then, Ashley joins Ben F. in the lush countryside of Sonoma, CA. He admits the journey has helped him tear down the walls he’s built up, but will his family agree that he’s a changed man? Finally, it’s off to Long Island, NY, where J.P. surprises Ashley with a retro trip to a roller skating rink, but then admits he is afraid to have his heart broken again. With her feelings now stronger than ever for the remaining four men, Ashley must choose which three will accompany her to their next exotic destination: Fiji.

After a turbulent first dinner service and the loss of a blue team member, the men powwow to discuss what needs to change in order to win the next one. It’s still men against women, as Chef Ramsay serves up the next challenge: Back-to-Basics Meat Temperature. The chefs have 20 minutes to grill four cuts of meat to a specified temperature and the team who comes closest will avoid the chopping block for another night. But another disastrous dinner service gets underway, with food on the floor and pre-cooked fish – neither of which fly with a frustrated Chef Ramsay. Will the blue team be able to stick to their promise to work as a pack or will the women send them back into the fire for a second time?
