This New Year’s, Citytv is indeed everywhere from the streets of Toronto and Calgary to social media across the country. Viewers are encouraged to join the conversation and engage with other Canadians via Twitter using the #Citytv2012 hash tag to share memories, comments and favourite moments from the evening’s festivities.
Earning top billing as the party station for Canadians on December 31 each year, Citytv’s annual event is the #1 New Year’s Eve broadcast in the key P2+ and A25-54 demos. Last year, the telecast garnered 793,400 viewers (P2+) with 5.6 million unique viewers (P2+) tuning in to some or all of the broadcast on Citytv and OMNI 2. As the overwhelming choice for New Year’s Eve entertainment and coverage, Citytv’s broadcast bested its closest competitor, Global’s New Year’s Eve at Niagara Falls, by 23% in the P2+ and A25-54 demos, as well as 32% in the A18-49 demo. Plus, the 2010 Citytv New Year’s Bash was the most-watched New Year’s celebration – Canadian or American – on Canadian television last year.*
In Toronto, the Citytv New Year’s Bash will once again take place outdoors at Nathan Phillips Square with Citytv hosts Gord Martineau, Tracy Moore, Dina Pugliese and Kevin Frankish. And in Calgary, Breakfast Television hosts Ted Henley, Tara Slone, Jill Belland and Andrew Schultz will usher in the New Year with a free event and live broadcast from downtown Calgary at Olympic Plaza. In addition to the cross-country, star-studded telecast, viewers and spectators will be treated to special holiday greetings from some of television’s biggest prime time stars.
Once again, the Citytv New Year’s Bash boasts key brand partnerships which will enhance the event for spectators in both Toronto and Calgary. For the 3rd consecutive year, Ferrero Rocher returns as a sponsor of Toronto’s 27th annual event. The premier chocolate company will host a VIP area at Nathan Phillips Square, offering spectators an exclusive viewing experience at the event. Citytv viewers can win wristbands for the VIP treatment by tuning in to Breakfast Television from 5:30am to 9am locally and CityLine at 9am locally or on-site where a handful of lucky spectators will be picked out of the audience to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the event. In addition, Chevrolet joins this year as new sponsor of the Citytv New Year’s Bash with their latest Chevrolet Sonic vehicle. Five finalists in Calgary will be selected from all of the eligible entries as Citytv and Chevrolet Sonic Turbo-Charge the New Year. Each of the finalists will be provided with a key, and the participant whose key starts the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic will drive away a winner.
