“Race to the Finish”
A commission for a horse racing track presents unusually tough challenges to the carvers, as well as a tight deadline – the last race of the season is only a few days away. Master carvers Jeff Samudosky and Mark Colp are invited to create the sculpture of three charging horses, but first they must find ways to deal with the physical limitations of redwood in their complex and finely-detailed design. Meanwhile, Steve judges a competition where young and old carvers compete.

After visiting a private collection of artifacts, Steve finds something he’s only dreamed of owning – a pair of hand-forged German torture shoes.
