THE BIOGRAPHY CHANNEL PRESENTS A TWO-PART DOCUMENTARY SPECIAL, THE TRAGIC SIDE OF FAME, MARCH 3

– Two, one-hour installments unravel the tragic stories of Hollywood stars including Dana Plato, Anna Nicole Smith, Corey Haim and Heath Ledger –
 
(Toronto – February 28, 2012) Beyond the glitz, glamour, and million-dollar lifestyles in Hollywood, exists the dark side of fame that often remains unseen. Beginning Saturday, March 3 on The Biography Channel, The Tragic Side of Fame - a two-part, one-hour documentary special - goes in-depth to explore the stories of some of Hollywood’s brightest stars whose lives were cut short. Featuring never-before-seen interviews with the family and friends of some of film and television’s most best-known stars - Part 1 of the series premieres Saturday, March 3 at 8pm ET (5pm PT), and Part 2 airs the following week on Saturday, March 10 at 5pm ET (2pm PT) on The Biography Channel.

 The Tragic Side of Fame: Part 1exposes the dark side of celebrity with profiles on the lives of Dana Plato (Diff'rent Strokes), a television star who struggled to with substance abuse; Rob Pilatus, who was emotionally destroyed when his pop duo Milli Vanilli was exposed as a sham; and Anna Nicole Smith (The Anna Nicole Smith Show), who dreamed of becoming the next Marilyn Monroe, but whose life ended as a result of drug abuse.

 
The Tragic Side of Fame: Part 2unveils the stories of three actors who seemed to have it all, only to become casualties of fame. The conclusion of the two-part special follows the lives of young performers including Brittany Murphy (Uptown Girls), who struggled with career difficulties and tabloid attacks on her marriage; Corey Haim (The Lost Boys) who became a teen idol, but couldn't handle the pressure of expectations, the scars of sexual abuse, and the lure of drugs; and acclaimed actor Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight), whose once happy, domestic life coupled with access to prescription drugs led him to a tragic end.
 
The Tragic Side of Fame was produced by Sharp Entertainment for Bio. The Biography Channel. Matt Sharp (Man V. Food Nation) serves as the executive producer.
