(Toronto – March 22, 2012) “Shut your mouth, and shut your face” – OMNI Television welcomes the Shahs of Sunset, a never-before-seen look inside the captivating and lavish lives of six young Persian-American friends living in Los Angeles. Armed with chromed-out cars, logo-ridden purses, designer outfits, and dogs with Facebook pages, they’ve got it all – and they’re not afraid to flaunt it. Created by Emmy® Award-winning Ryan Seacrest Productions (Keeping Up with the Kardashians), this six-part, one-hour, docu-series makes its Canadian debut Sunday, April 8 at 9pm ET on OMNI.2, OMNI Alberta and OMNI BC.
Active members of Los Angeles’ elaborate dating and party scene, these passionate socialites struggle with pressure from their families to settle down and marry within the community as they juggle their social lives and up-and-coming careers. From over-the-top shopping sprees on Rodeo Drive to traditional family feasts at home these socialites are living the good life – and they’re not shy of the drama that comes along with it. The cast of Shahs of Sunset includes Reza Farahan, one of the few openly gay Persians in the community and an old fashioned guy at heart; Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi, an exotic beauty with a fiery temper whose daddy pays for everything; Mercedes “MJ” Javid, a known party girl who struggles to fulfill the plan that her unconventional Persian mother expects; Asa Soltan Rahmati, a controversial singer/artist who prides herself on living the “modern Persian gypsy bohemian lifestyle”; Mike Shouhed, a mama’s boy who has the best intentions but can’t help to charm every girl he meets; and Sammy Younai, a ladies’ man and always on the prowl for his next fling. In the premiere episode, “Image is Everything,” viewers are introduced to six Persian-American friends – MJ, Reza, Asa, Sammy, Mike and GG – living a life of luxury in Los Angeles. Drama ensues among the friends at dinner and continues on at a lavish pool party, complete with a tiger.
Shahs of Sunset is produced by Ryan Seacrest Productions with Ryan Seacrest (Keeping Up with the Kardashians), Adam Sher (Food Revolution) and Pete Tartagkia (The Real Housewives of Orange County) serving as executive producers on the series.
