TORONTO (September 18, 2012) Following the astounding success of last fall’s epic ground-breaking and visceral series, American Horror Story, creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have resurrected their award-winning thriller with a dark new twist: a new dwelling, new characters, new storyline, and all-new terrors. Premiering in simulcast on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 10 p.m. ET/PT (check local listings) only on FX Canada, American Horror Story: Asylum, will explore sanity and real-life horrors in an Massachusetts asylum. Set in 1964, former tuberculosis ward Briarcliff Manor is home to the criminally insane…along with a few other unknowns. With a jarring mix of the paranormal and supernatural, Season 2 of the American Horror Story anthology  is guaranteed to make hearts skip a beat, hair stand on end, and fearful tears fill anxious eyes.

“Continuing its commitment to world-class, critically acclaimed programming, FX Canada is proud to bring Canadian viewers the exclusive second season of American Horror Story,” said Malcolm Dunlop, Executive Vice-President of Programming and Operations, Rogers Media. “This series is unlike anything else on television, and following the success of the first season, we’re looking forward to the new installment which is sure to impress and terrify viewers at the same level – if not more – than Season 1.”

Lurking inside Briarcliff Manor is a long list of beings, apparitions, and unidentifiably, terrifying creatures. No one can be trusted and nothing is as it seems. It is every person, thing, and soul for themselves and no one is safe…or sane. The unorthodox spectrum of characters wandering the halls of Briarcliff include:

Sister Jude (Jessica Lange,American Horror Story, Season 1)
Running the Briarcliff Manor Asylum is Sister Jude, a wickedly stern nun who's more sadistic than saintly. She is a troubled woman with a dark past whose own morality comes into question.

Dr. Thredson (Zachary Quinto, American Horror Story, Season 1)
Dr. Thredson is a psychiatrist whose forward-thinking ways conflict with Sister Jude's (Lange) traditional management style.

Dr. Arden
(James Cromwell, The Artist)
While he may appear harmless, the not-so-good doctor is the mastermind behind the “Raspers”: mutated humans that lurk in the forest outside of the institution. The Raspers are a product of Dr. Arden's diabolical experiments on Briarcliff's inmates.
Sister Eunice (Lily Rabe, American Horror Story, Season 1)
Second-in-command to Sister Jude, Sister Eunice may seem simple-minded, but there is more to her than meets the eye.
Monsignor Timothy O'Hara (Joseph Fiennes, Enemy at the Gates)
As Sister Jude’s (Lange) superior, Monsignor Timothy O'Hara is the object of the nun's affections and fantasies. Despite the perception of innocence, there are dark intentions simmering under his piety.
Kit (Evan Peters, American Horror Story, Season 1)
Committed after being accused of murdering his wife, Kit is one of the newest Briarcliff Manor inmates. He soon becomes the subject of Sister Jude's (Lange) brutal punishments,
Lana (Sarah Paulson, American Horror Story, Season 1)
After nearly exposing the asylum’s darkest secrets, lesbian journalist Lana is committed to Briarcliff by her own girlfriend.
Shelley (Chloë Sevigny, Big Love)
Shelley is a nymphomaniac whose sexual urges have lead to her confinement.

Leo (Adam Levine,Maroon 5)
Leo is a present-day newlywed visiting modern-day Briarcliff Manor.

(Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Step Up)
Teresa is recently married to Leo (Levine), also a visitor of modern-day Briarcliff Manor.
Additional casting information will be revealed in the coming weeks, including more details on the return of Frances Conroy in her new role.

Relive the uniquely disturbing characters and thrilling storylines of American Horror Story Season 1 with a full-day marathon on Monday, October 8 from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. ET (check local listings) on FX Canada.
American Horror Story: Asylum is produced by Fox Television Studios and FX Productions. Executive Producers are Ryan Murphy (Nip/Tuck,) Brad Falchuk (Nip/Tuck,) and Dante DiLoreto (Glee.)
