Rogers Radio Stations Honoured with Nine Prestigious 2013 Edward R. Murrow Awards

TORONTO (April 18, 2013) – As announced today in Washington D.C. by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), Rogers Radio was honoured with nine international 2013 Edward R. Murrow awards for news excellence.  Taking home a record–breaking eight awards, including the esteemed award for ‘Overall Excellence’ in Large Market Radio,  680Newsreceived more accolades than any other radio or television media outlet in the Toronto market. Rounding out the total wins for Rogers Radio, Kitchener’s 570 News won for ‘Best Website’ in the Small Market Radio category.


These awards are a testament to the industry leadership of the Rogers Radio team - who continue to push the boundaries to deliver engaging, relevant, and comprehensive local, regional and national stories to our audiences each and every day,” said Paul Ski, Chief Executive Officer, Rogers Radio.


Among the broad scope of awards received, 680News’s honours include recognition for the station’s coverage of ‘Breaking News’ in the category of Large Market Radio for the shooting in Toronto’s Danzig community, and the station’s lively feature on international pop star Psy’s performance at the Bills in Toronto halftime show at the Rogers Centre. In the category of ‘Writing,’ 680News’s Peter Gross took a creative approach when writing a story on the significance of the number 61 in the world of sports in his report on Day 61 of the NHL Lockout.


The Radio Television Digital News Association, based in Washington, has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow's pursuit of excellence in journalism embodies the spirit of the awards that carry his name. Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession.
